Ex001: Every day I’m drawing
Sam Taylor’s work has illustrated articles for VICE, The Guardian, FHM and more. Last year he art directed Cons Project London, and he has just finished a huge Made By You mural.
“Every day I’m drawing. Every day I’m trying new stuff and new colour schemes and developing characters. I’m absorbed in this world that I’m constantly creating, and I love doing it. Just like skateboarding or going to the pub, it gives me a lot of satisfaction. It’s amazing to feel like I’ve made something.”
My style is quite cartoony. I try and disguise satirical and critical subjects in a juvenile way. Even if the piece is about politics, I like to soften the world and make it seem a bit farcical.
The Converse Made By You mural is a natural evolution of some personal work I’ve been doing. It’s based on things that inspire me. I get inspired by everything around me. Current affairs and pop culture gets simultaneously filtered through my brain. In my head, the mural is a good-looking board game, mapping my world.”
